Timeline

How it happened.

  1. 1992Slovenia receives .si from IANA; ARNES runs it from the start.
  2. 2005First-come, first-served registration through registrars.
  3. 2008.si opens to anyone in the world. No residency, no local company.
  4. 2011DNSSEC. The zone is signed.
  5. Jun 2024copilot.si is noticed. Domain investors begin reading .si as “super intelligence”.
  6. May 2026Recursive Superintelligence buys recursive.si for about $20,000.
  7. 22 Sep 2026The US President uses “super intelligence” in place of AI at the UN.
  8. 29 Sep 2026Executive Order 14434: federal agencies are to say “SI”, super intelligence, instead of AI.
  9. Oct 2026The registry passes 400,000 names. Dynadot, Porkbun, Namecheap and Hostinger market .si for AI.

Owning one

Plain facts
for buyers.

  • Anyone can own a .si. Natural or legal persons anywhere in the world. No Slovenian presence required. (General Terms, clause 2.7)
  • Transfers are free of restriction. Owner-to-owner transfers at any time with both parties’ consent; registrar changes with an AuthInfo code. (Clauses 6.3, 6.4)
  • Terms of one to five years. The registry fee is €10 a year and does not move with demand. Retail runs about $10–13 a year, against roughly $85–90 for a .ai with a two-year minimum.
  • A stable, public registry. Register.si is part of ARNES, Slovenia’s academic and research network, a public institute founded in 1992, ISO 27001 certified, under EU law and GDPR.
  • Real transactions. Recursive Superintelligence paid about $20,000 for recursive.si (May 2026). Otherwise.si sold for $18,888 on Spaceship in September 2026.
  • What I don’t claim. The executive order binds US federal communications, not companies. Google’s and Microsoft’s .si names are old defensive registrations. I show you the numbers; you decide what they mean.
